Actively shaping the energy future

This is what the innovative energy supplier EWS Energie AG wants and is continuously working on making energy sustainable. Innovative solutions such as the solar folding roof are helping to bring about the energy revolution. The new solar folding roof over the Reinach wastewater treatment plant is in operation since May 2021. Those responsible at the Aargau-based energy supplier EWS Energie AG were inspired by the pilot project, the first solar folding roof over the Chur WWTP, which was inaugurated in 2017.

Over an area of 4,400 square metres, 1,440 solar panels provide electricity production above the sewage treatment basins of the Reinach WWTP. It thus has the largest installed span to date. At 450,000 kWh per year, the folding solar roof produces about a third of the WWTP’s total electricity needs, which is equivalent to about 100 households.

Why we built a solar folding roof system and not simply a roof system? We are continuously working on making our energy supply more sustainable. That's why we wanted to build big and an area of 4,400 m2 could only be found here on the ARA.

We are proud to have the first system in the canton of Aargau. This means that the WWTP can cover around a third of its electricity needs with the solar folding roof. We would like to thank dhp for the professional planning and implementation. Despite difficult conditions due to Corona, we were able to put the project into operation on schedule.
